A student of Spring Valley High School, South Carolina was dragged from her desk and handled roughly by the school resource officer, Ben Fields who was subsequently fired. The video of the assault was uploaded by her classmates and sparked outrage across America. It also brought into question white police officer’s violent attitudes towards African-Americans. This provoked movements like Rise Up October and Black Lives Matter.
